How nice!

Thanks for the welcome from several people whose journals I have been lurking over for a while; all of us in the Sharmyweb. Not a bad place to be.
This is the funnest song! Fatboy Slim--Weapon of Choice. That doesn't sound like a fun song, does it? I have no idea what they are saying--I just like the beat. It's probably some horrible, misogynistic thing that would make me cringe if I knew what was being said--oh, well, tra la la. I like to dance in my seat--do you do that?
Not a lot of deep thought going on, can you tell? Wednesdays are my long day--long for a person who hasn't worked full-time in 6 months, that is. 2-9:45 p.m. Not that long, I guess. Anyway--a pretty good day, except I was spaced out in class. Yes, for those who don't know, I am a Mars Hillian. "Do you like it there?" "I love it, I hate it--I am trying to inhabit the shadow-zone that encompasses faith and ambivalence"--hee. That sounds so dumb written out, but it was part of what class tonight was about. We read The Hollow Men by TS Eliot to illustrate substance abuse--ya gotta love that.
I ate yummy Thai beef for lunch; I do love good food. Oh, those brownies from yesterday? They aren't gone yet--but I made a significant dent in them. Eating is such a reliable pleasure, you know? Unlike so much else in life. Okay, time for bed. Tomorrow I am going to enjoy a day out--not sure where, we'll see. On the way home tonight, I was thinking how I should take a road trip this summer. I am from Florida, and while I have lived out West before, there is a lot I have yet to see. So--where should I go? I've never been to Vegas--but I think Reno is close enough. I love San Francisco & Portland--where else is fun?

I think Vancouver, B.C. is a way cool city. And not too far away to be done easily in a couple of days (although more time is better, of course)--or a day even, if you're feeling crazy.

i know it's a very very very long way away, but maine is GORGEOUS. i went there by myself for a long weekend one summer, and it was incredible!!! i stayed at an old boarding house that was turned into a b&b called craignair inn. i highly recommend it for the introvert, writer, musician, naturalist, or thinker. (hopefully this picture will work on the first try...)

Hi, K! Yeah, I have only been there once for a day, need to explore it further for sure. Where do you stay when you visit?

yeah, the greatest part at that particular place is that there's a 200-acre island that's attached by only a narrow drive, and it's all wooded and beautiful like a nature preserve. the water that you see in the picture is a little bayish area that stretches out to the ocean at the right. ...gosh that was a beautiful place...

Well, truth be told, I've done several day trips up there and not many overnights (save with family when I was younger). So I'm not sure what the good places are to stay. I do know that for the adventuresome types on a budget there's supposedly a pretty cool youth hostel somewhere. (Haven't been there myself though.)

http://www.mhgs.eduI have been to the Connecticut (I think) River, which I remember as being in Vermont (which if true, makes no sense)--I was at a workshop at Smith College, and we went canoeing on the river. I also have friends in FL who are from Maine and Vermont--the husband grew up in some small town in VT, and his mom still lives there. They go every summer and invite me, but they drive me nuts, so I never have. All that to say, I need to explore New England someday, so thanks for the invite to your state. And you have done a lot of reading! Wow!
